2017 High Graduate

Andriana Danielle Hargrove is the daughter of John and Tonya Hargrove and the sibling of Angelina and Alena Hargrove. Her favorite scripture is Psalms 61:1-3 “Hear My Cry o God attend unto my prayer. From the end of the Earth will I cry unto thee when my heart is overwhelmed lead me to the rock that is higher than I. For thou Hast been a shelter for me and a strong tower from the enemy”. She is a NC Scholar graduate of Cleveland High School and was a member of the National Honors Society. She received the award of leadership from NC A&T and Robotics from Winston-Salem State University. She was awarded with the NAACP scholarship and the Copper Heritage scholarship. She will continue her educational career at NC A&T, majoring in architectural and civil engineering with a minor in computer science.

 2017 College Graduates

Quentin Lamar Atkinson is the son of Elbert Atkinson (LaTonya) and Jacqueline Jones. Quentin is a 2016 graduate of North Carolina Central University, where he obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Mass Communications. During his college career, Quentin played football and held position as wide receiver.  Post-graduation, Quentin is training to play professional football.  Quentin’s favorite scripture is Psalm 23:1, “The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.” 

 

 

LaShunda Faison, the daughter of the late Vincent Faison, Sr. and Jennifer Williamson Faison, earned her Master of School Administration from North Carolina State University through the North Carolina Principal Fellows Program. During her studies, she travelled abroad to Beijing, China to research teacher evaluation processes. LaShunda previously earned her Bachelor of Arts in History from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a Master in the Art of Teaching from Wake Forest University. As a North Carolina Principal Fellow, LaShunda has committed to being a school administrator in the state for four years. Once she fulfills her obligation, LaShunda plans to pursue a doctorate in education and social policy.

Brea Symone’ Johnson is the daughter of Carla Washington and Sean Johnson, and the granddaughter of the late Ora Lee Atkinson. Brea is a spring 2017 graduate of North Carolina Central University where she received her Bachelors of Art in History and Minor in African Diaspora. Beginning fall 2017 Brea will be attending Delaware School of Law at Widener University in Wilmington, Delaware.  Brea’s career aspiration is to become a Federal Prosecutor in the Washington, DC area.   Brea’s favorite quote:  “Education is the passport to the future, for tomorrow belongs to those who prepare for it today.” ~ Malcolm X

 

 

Jackson Melton, IIIis the son of Alfreda S. and Robert J. Melton, Jr., the grandson of Late Lena M. and George Smith, Jr. and Mildred Melton the late Robert Melton, Sr. He is a 2017 graduate of Livingstone College with a Bachelors in Sport Management. While at Livingstone Jackson was of an active part of the Blue Bear Athletic Department assisting in CIAA Track and Field and Golf Championships. Jackson remains an active JPG member working diligently in with the Sound Ministry and Laymen’s League. Jackson plans on pursuing his passion for sports by in working in athletic administration and assisting in the development of young athletes. Jackson’s favorite scripture is “I can do all things through Christ that strengthens me” Philippians 4:13.

 

Denise Brown Peavy started her training at Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church Sunday School in Riegelwood NC. There she continued to grow and learned many of her life experiences. Her favorite scriptures are, “Be careful for nothing; but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”(Philippians 4:6-8) For 43 years, Denise has been employed with Duke Energy Progress. Shortly after joining the electric company Denise joined the US Army, as a Transportation and Documentation Specialist. Upon returning from duty, she returned to the electric company and enrolled at UNC-Wilmington, and graduated from North Carolina Wesleyan College with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration on April 29, 2017. Denise is married to Alfred Peavy, USMC retired, and the mother of two daughters, Kascha and Alyssa. She is also proud to be grandmother of Raelyn Denise and Lauryn Samone.

Dionne Truitt graduated from Walden University cum laude and received her Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Human Resource Management. She plans on pursuing a career within Human Resources as a recruiter. Dionne is married to Christopher Truitt and they have 2 sons, Christopher and Dylan. She is the daughter of Deacon and Ms. Donzell Williamson.

 

 

Taiesha M. Young , know by most friends and family as “Tai” is May 19, 2017 graduate as a Biology major.  Taiesha will be taking a year off to get experience and apply for my master’s in a Public Health program; and then attend a medical school to achieve her major career goal as a Cardiovascular Surgeon. Her interest in the heart with her ability and enjoyment for helping other people is a unique combination, and one in which she hopes to excel at with the help of internships and mentoring from professionals within the field. College has taught her one major thing, that is a long standing expectation of all of its graduates, which is “Enter to Learn and Depart to Serve”. Every opportunity is a good opportunity; her optimism about life is what drives her passion for science and improving the quality of human life.
