2018 High School Graduates

Zhy’shawn Abernathy was a member of the varsity basketball team and track team his junior year. He also played football. Zhy’shawn plans to further his education by attending Johnston Community College where he will study Criminal Justice. Zhy’shawn is the son of Dannielle North and grandson of Pamela Mitchell Nicholson. His favorite bible verse is “In the day when I cried out. You answered me. And made me bold with strength in my soul.” Psalm 138:3

 

 

 

 

Jacob Barnes is a 2018 graduate of Cleveland High School. Jacob is the son of the late Paula and Jay Barnes and the grandson of Uzzell Barnes. Jacob is extremely appreciative to his grandfather for allowing him to live with him after the death of his parents and credits his grandfather for teaching him the importance of family and helping to become a man. Jacob will be attending Methodist University on a football scholarship. His favorite scripture is Psalms 37:4 “Delight yourself in the Lord and He shall give you the desires of your heart.”

 

 

  Alena Cathryn Hargrove is the daughter of John and Tonya Hargrove and the sibling of Angelina and Andriana Hargrove. Her favorite scripture is Isaiah 43: 2 “When you go through deep waters and great trouble, I will be with you. When you go through rivers of difficulty you will not drown!”. She is a NC High Honors graduate of Cleveland High School and was a member of the National Honors Society. She received the Eve Michelle Stephenson Jones Scholarship, and the Provost Scholarship from Winston Salem State University. She will continue her educational career at Winston Salem State University, majoring in Biology with a minor Education.

 

 

 JohnNetta Hollins is the daughter of Regina & Johnnie Hollins. She graduated from Cleveland High School and plans to attend Wake Tech to study for a dental hygienist/phlebotomist. Her favorite scripture is Psalms 24

 

 

 

 

 

 

Kaille Matthews is a graduate of Southeast Raleigh Magnet High School. She is the daughter of Dianne and Gregory Matthews. While at Southeast she completed her 4 years in the Biomedical Science Career Academy and was a member of the National Honor Society. She also was a member of J.V and Varsity girls basketball team, and played soccer her senior year. She is currently working at Chipotle Mexican Grill. She will be attending Queens University of Charlotte, majoring in public health. Her favorite Scripture is Psalm 23:4 “Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me: thy rod  and thy staff they comfort me.

 

 

 

Lacala Morrison is the daughter of Calvin Morrison. She attends Smithfield Selma Senior High School. She has received honor roll all four years of high school while playing sports and working. She plans to attend North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University in the fall and major in Biological Sciences.   After college she wants to become a Forensic         Scientist/Medical Examiner. Her favorite scripture is: “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” Philippians 4:13

 

 

 

Gabrielle Anya Petteway is the daughter of Jefferson & Felisha McDaniel. She is a 2018 graduate of West Johnston High School. She is a member of the JPG Youth Choir and has participated in numerous JPG Youth Missionary events. And she is very thankful to JPG for allowing her to worship God through dance. While in High School, Gabrielle has maintained a average GPA of 3.4 while participating in track, dance, science olympiad and peer tutoring. She was the West Johnston High School runner up for poetry out loud and awarded by the dance department for the most entertaining student choreography. Gabrielle, plans to attend North Carolina A & T State University to major in Nursing. Her future plan is to continue her education to become a Nurse Practitioner. Gabrielle’s favorite scripture is Jeremiah 29:11 “For I know the plans I have for you, “declares the Lord.” Plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

 

Shuntorie Ratliff is a 2018 graduate of Cleveland High School in Clayton, NC. She is the niece of Wayne and Carolyn Pegues. Upon graduation from high school her goals are to attend Johnston Community College and Enlist into the United State Air Force pursuing a career in Pediatric Nursing. Shuntorie participates in many activities at Cleveland which includes Army Junior Reserve Training Corps, National Honor Society Scholars, basketball, track and field, and Earth and Environmental Club. One scripture I keep in my heart is Hebrews 11:1, “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.”

 

 

 

 

Trevor Preston Thomas is the son of Theodore  and  Barbara Thomas.  Trevor is a graduate of Johnston County Middle College.  Trevor’s  favorite scripture is “I can do all things through Christ that strengthens me”.  Trevor plans to attend Fayetteville State University in the fall.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 Gavin Smith Williams is a graduate of Dover High School, located in Dover, Delaware. Gavin is a member of the National Honor Society, The Debate Team and DECA. He took honors and AP courses and remained on the high honor roll all four years in high school. In sports, he began on the men’s varsity soccer team where he was the captain for 2 years. He ran Cross Country for 4 years. Gavin was the Capitan of the men’s track and field team for 2 years and lead the team to conference championships in indoor track and two state outdoor track and field championships. He is a First Team All-Conference and First Team All-State distance runner. He plans to attend Howard University in the fall and major in Supply Chain Management in the School of Business. Gavin has received an academic scholarship and a track scholarship and plans to continue his track career at Howard University. Garvin is the son of Drs. Robin Smith Williams and Harry Williams. Gavin’s favorite scripture is Psalms 106:1 “and his favorite quote is “To give anything less that your best is to sacrifice your gift.”

 

 2018 College Graduates

Kiana Hall is the daughter of William and Kathy Hall and the granddaughter of Winslow Williamson and the late Inez Williamson.  She is a 2018 graduate of North Carolina State University where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting with a concentration in Financial Analysis.  Kiana was an active member of NC State’s chapter of the National Association of Black Accountants where she served as Treasurer.  Her career goal is to become a Certified Public Accountant.  Kiana’s favorite scripture is Philippians 4:13 “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”

 

 

 

Austin Patterson Williams graduated from Howard University, Friday, May 12th with a degree in Accounting from the School of Business, magnum cum laude. He is currently employed at an accounting firm in Washington, DC and is studying for his CPA licensure. While at Howard University, Austin was a member of the men’s soccer team. He lettered his freshmen year and held the highest GPA for two years (all male athletes). He hopes to continue his soccer career by playing for a professional team in the near future. Austin is committed to soccer, accounting and his new wife, Reagan Coss Williams. The couple was married Saturday, May 13th in Alexandria, Virginia. The couple resides in Washington, DC. Reagan plans to attend Law school next year. Austin is the son of Drs. Robin Smith Williams and Harry Williams. Austin’s favorite scripture is Psalms 22 and his favorite quote is “The Lord gives his toughest battles to his strongest soldiers”

 

Myrayna Watkins is a 2018 graduate of Wake Technical Community College in Raleigh, NC. Her supportive parents are Greg and Myrissa King. Upon her graduation from Wake Tech her goals include to attend UNC-Pembroke and pursue a career in Cyber Security. She goes by Philippians 4:13, “I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me”.

 

 

 

 

 

 

  2018 Masters Graduate

Cassi Vinson Williams is a 2018 graduate of  Strayer University where she received her Masters in Business Administration with a concentration in Management.   She is currently employed as a Sr. Financial Services Officer at the NC State Employees’ Credit Union in Hope Mills, NC.   Cassi resides in Hope Mills, NC with her husband Stan Williams and their two daughters, Khloe and Aubrey Williams.  She is also the daughter of Isaac and Sharon Vinson and the sister of Natalie (Cornelius) Mills and Shea Vinson and the proud aunt of 14 nieces and nephews.   Cassi’ favorite scripture is: “Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee. Trust ye in the Lord for ever: for in the Lord Jehovah is everlasting strength.” Isaiah 26:3-4.

 

2018 Doctoral Graduate

Sheheira Finch is the daughter of Lynton and Jenifer Ray. She received her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology with a minor in Elementary Education from Winston Salem State University and a Birth to Kindergarten certification from Shaw University in Raleigh NC. Continuing her educational journey, she is proud to receive a Master’s degree in Early Childhood Education, she went on to further her education by completing her doctoral degree in Education Leadership and Management both from Capella University. Sheheira’s favorite scripture is Isaiah 54:17, “No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper; and every tongue that shall rise against thee in judgment thou shalt condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord, and their righteousness is of me, saith the Lord.”
